Korean Air Delivers Initial AH-6 Helicopter Production Units to Boeing
Korean Air announced on the 26th that it has successfully delivered the initial production batch of AH-6 helicopter fuselages for the contract received from Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), the defense and aerospace division of the U.S. company Boeing. The AH-6 fuselages manufactured by Korean Air will undergo final finishing work at BDS.
In December 2021, Korean Air signed a contract with Boeing to manufacture fuselages for eight AH-6 helicopters to be delivered to the Royal Thai Army.
The reason Korean Air signed the contract with Boeing for the AH-6 helicopter fuselage production is due to the extensive helicopter manufacturing expertise it has accumulated over the years. From 1977 to 1988, Korean Air mass-produced 309 units of the 500MD, the first domestically produced helicopter, selling them to the military, public institutions, and private companies. It produced 516 fuselages for export. Additionally, it successfully carried out the 500MD unmanned project. This long-standing helicopter manufacturing know-how of Korean Air was highly valued.
In the field of helicopter fuselage production, components such as the canopy and landing gear, which are critical for safe operation, require a high level of technical skill. Korean Air collaborated with its partner company, KENCOA Aerospace, to successfully produce the initial units. This achievement once again recognized Korean Air’s outstanding helicopter fuselage manufacturing capabilities.
