Shin Ji-eun failed to secure a come-from-behind victory.
On the 25th (local time), Shin Ji-eun finished tied for 8th place (5-under 279) after losing one stroke in the 4th round of the second major tournament of the 2023 LPGA Tour season, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (total prize money $10 million), held at Baltusrol Golf Club (par 71, 6,621 yards) in Springfield, New Jersey, USA. This marks her second top-10 finish in a major tournament since placing 6th at the 2017 Women’s British Open.

She began on a high note with a birdie on the 1st hole (par 4), but bogeys on the 8th and 15th holes pushed her out of the title contention. She was unable to reduce her score on the remaining three holes and failed to improve her ranking. After winning her first career title at the 2016 Texas Shootout, she had hoped to claim her second career victory after seven years, but those hopes were dashed.
In Ruoning (China) posted a 4-under round to complete a come-from-behind victory by one stroke (8-under 276). This was her second win of the season following her first victory at the DIO Implant LA Open in April, earning $1.5 million (19.7 billion KRW) in prize money. In Ruoning is a promising second-year player who recorded the second Chinese victory on the LPGA Tour, following world number one Feng Shanshan (10 wins). She became the champion of this tournament for the first time in 11 years since Feng Shanshan’s win in 2012.
Yuka Saso (Japan) finished 2nd (7-under 277), while Lin Xiyu (China), Carlota Ciganda (Spain), Anna Nordqvist (Sweden), and Megan Kang (USA) tied for 3rd place (6-under 278). Rising star Rose Zhang (USA), who won her professional debut at the Mizuho Americas Open, made a strong showing by shooting 4-under to finish tied for 8th. Leona Maguire (Ireland), who led the previous day, lost three strokes and dropped to a tie for 11th place (4-under 280).
