The Fourth Domestic Surf Rescue Team Takes Off at Jeju, the Representative Surfing Spot

The 'Surf Rescue Team' has taken its first step in Jeju, South Korea's representative surfing destination.

According to the Jeju Regional Coast Guard on the 24th, the inauguration ceremony of the Jeju Surf Rescue Team was held that morning at Iho Tewoo Beach in Jeju.

Following the Coast Guards of Sokcho, Pohang, and Busan, the Jeju Surf Rescue Team, the fourth to be launched, includes more than 120 voluntary participants such as surfing companies and enthusiasts.

Marking the 70th anniversary of its establishment, the Coast Guard promoted the Jeju Surf Rescue Team to strengthen civilian maritime rescue capabilities in Jeju and to spread a culture of maritime safety among the public.

Along with the inauguration ceremony, a civilian rescue competition was also held. This event was hosted by the Coast Guard and organized by the Jeju Regional Coast Guard, Korea Maritime Rescue Association, Seoul YMCA, and Korea Lifesaving Association, with sponsorship from E-Mart and the Korea Maritime Rescue Association.

The Jeju Surf Rescue Team, composed of veteran surfers, is expected to play a significant role in enabling the public to use the sea with peace of mind by quickly approaching people in danger at sea.

A Jeju Coast Guard official said, "Along the coast, we will strengthen preventive patrols together with civilian maritime rescue teams, including the Surf Rescue Team," and added, "In the open sea, we will establish a proactive safety management system by utilizing advanced surveillance assets such as drones and satellites."
