Apple Plans to Launch 'Apple Card' in India
Second Release in the U.S. Since 2019
Apple is reportedly pushing to launch the 'Apple Card' in India, according to Indian media on the 23rd (local time).
Indian media outlets such as Moneycontrol.com cited sources saying that Apple CEO Tim Cook met with the CEO of HDFC Bank during his visit to India last April to explore the possibility of launching the Apple Card, a credit card. In India, only banks can issue credit cards, so Apple is reportedly considering launching the Apple Card jointly with HDFC Bank.
HDFC Bank is India's largest private bank and has a friendly relationship with Apple, offering discounts on the Apple online store, among other collaborations.
Apple is also said to have discussed card issuance with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). However, the RBI reportedly asked Apple to comply with existing regulations, the media added. The discussions about launching the Apple Card in India are still in the early stages, and no conclusions have been reached yet.
