Ma Dong-seok Produces and Stars in Hollywood Film 'Helldiver'
Actor Ma Dong-seok will participate as a producer and actor in the Hollywood film 'Helldiver,' Big Punch Entertainment, his agency, announced on the 23rd.
'Helldiver' is a live-action film based on a New York Times bestseller novel. The original novel was written by author Nicholas Sansbury Smith and published by Blackstone Publishing.
The production is handled by Arad Productions, co-founded by Avi Arad and Ari Arad, the producers of 'Uncharted' and former CEOs of Marvel Studios.
Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Emmy Yu of Arad Productions are producing the film with Jerome Chen, a VFX (visual effects) supervisor and animation director who was nominated for an Academy Award for 'The Amazing Spider-Man' parts 1 and 2.
Jerome Chen said, "I am looking forward to seeing Ma Dong-seok breathe special abilities and emotions into the character."
Ma Dong-seok and Mi&Ci content producer Chris S. Lee are participating in the production together with Gorilla8 Productions. Gorilla8 Productions is a company founded by Ma Dong-seok and his production partner Chris S. Lee, developing film and TV projects between Korea and the United States.
Ma Dong-seok, who is both producer and lead actor playing the role of Xavier, said, "I am pleased to participate as a producer for the adaptation of a special and famous science fiction novel," adding, "It is an honor to portray a character who is tough yet subtle."
'Helldiver' depicts a story set two centuries after World War III. Humanity lives aboard massive airships, the last bastions, wandering in search of habitable areas, with only two surviving airships remaining.
