Boiling Hot China... Beijing Daytime Temperature Hits Record High of 41.8°C
Abnormal high temperature phenomena continue in northern China. While 17 regions nationwide have recorded record high temperatures based on observatory measurements, a heatstroke patient also occurred in Beijing.
According to local media including Chinese economic specialist media Caixin on the 22nd, 17 national meteorological observatories including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and Shandong recorded their highest temperatures ever. The highest temperature in Tanghekou Town, Huairou District, Beijing was 41.8℃ at 2 p.m. that day, ranking first nationwide and breaking the local highest observation record.
Min Wuqiu, a meteorological analyst at the China Meteorological Network, explained, "There have been three instances of weather exceeding 41℃ in observation records, with the most recent highest record being 41.1℃ on May 29, 2014," adding, "The all-time highest record was 41.9℃ on July 24, 1999."
In Beijing, the number of days with a maximum temperature exceeding 35℃ this month reached nine. Lei Lei, chief forecaster at the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, said, "Due to the influence of the high-pressure ridge, there are no clouds in the Beijing sky, and the lower layer is controlled by a strong hot air mass," further explaining, "The north has low humidity and dryness, making the atmosphere easily heat up."
The Central Meteorological Observatory issued a high-temperature warning (orange) for the first time this year at 6 p.m. that day. The high-temperature warning consists of four levels: red, orange, yellow, and blue. The orange warning is the second highest level. It is issued when the temperature exceeds 37℃ within 24 hours.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day, temperatures in Beijing, Tianjin, northern Hebei, and northern Shandong rose sharply, with maximum temperatures exceeding 40℃. Not only Tanghekou Town in Beijing but also Binhai in Tianjin recorded a highest temperature of 41.8℃. Zhang Juan, a meteorological analyst at the China Meteorological Network, forecasted, "The high-temperature phenomenon will continue throughout the holiday period, and after the holiday ends, it will ease briefly before becoming hot again at the end of this month."
