"All 5 Passengers Dead in 'Titanic Tourist Submarine' Incident"
All 5 passengers aboard the submarine 'Titan' missing in the Atlantic Ocean have been confirmed dead, OceanGate, the submarine operator, and the U.S. Coast Guard announced on the 22nd (local time).
OceanGate stated in a press release that all five passengers, including pilot and CEO Stockton Rush, are presumed dead. The Titan lost contact less than two hours after submerging on the 18th for a Titanic exploration. Typically, the submarine is equipped with enough oxygen for four days before diving. Accordingly, the oxygen depletion time was estimated to be around 7:18 a.m. that day.

The U.S. Coast Guard, responsible for the search, subsequently confirmed that all passengers had died. Earlier, the Coast Guard confirmed discovering debris from the submarine's external structure near the Titanic wreck site. Coast Guard Chief John Mauger explained at a press briefing that afternoon, "The environment beneath the seabed here is incredibly harsh," adding, "The debris is consistent with the tragic implosion of the vessel." He also noted that the families were immediately informed of the deaths.
