Goheung-gun Awarded Local Government Commendation for 'Best Water Management'

Expansion of Water Supply, Improvement of Aging Water Supply Facilities, etc.

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 21st that it was selected as the "Best Local Government in Water Management" and received an institutional award at the 17th Water and Health Forum 2023 held at the 40th Anniversary Hall of the K-water Human Resources Development Institute in Daejeon Metropolitan City.

The "17th Water and Health Forum" is jointly hosted by Environment Times and Environment Broadcasting (GKBS), and supported by the National Assembly Water Forum, Ministry of Environment, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Korea Environment Corporation, and others. It is an event where information exchange and communication regarding domestic water-related policies and the direction of the water industry take place.

Additionally, every year, awards are given to local governments that have performed excellently in the field of water management, and this year, Gohung-gun was selected as the best local government in water management.

Gohung-gun has invested a total of 51.3 billion KRW up to 2023 in villages experiencing inconvenience in using domestic water, completing water supply facility construction in 47 villages including Doyang-eup, Podu-myeon, Daeseo-myeon, and Jeomam-myeon, as well as in island areas within the jurisdiction such as Doyang Sanghwado, Hwahwado, and Deukryangdo, striving to provide clean water.

Furthermore, through the "Smart Water Network Infrastructure Construction Project," it has conducted cleaning of aging pipes to supply high-quality water to local residents, and has also worked on improving water administration systems by introducing remote water meter reading systems and enhancing water meter reading programs. In addition, efforts have been made to improve financial soundness by increasing the water service rate through the local water supply modernization project.

A county official stated, "As a result of our efforts to supply clear and clean water, we were selected as the best institution in water management this time," and added, "We will continue to work harder to expand water supply so that there are no areas without access to water supply."
