Gwangju Nam-gu, Baegun Square 'Idea Contest' Team Recruitment
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is publicly recruiting participant groups ahead of a two-day group discussion urban regeneration idea competition next month to revitalize the commercial district around Baegun Square.
Nam-gu announced on the 21st that the "2023 Baegun Square Urban Regeneration Idea Competition" will be held over two days from July 5th to 6th.
The competition will recruit 10 teams from the general public interested in the urban regeneration project and startups around Baegun Square and will be conducted in a hackathon format.
A hackathon is a portmanteau of hacking and marathon, referring to a process where participants engage in long hours of discussion and idea generation at a set time and place, similar to running a marathon, to produce final results.
Through this competition, Nam-gu aims to discover feasible business models.
The competition themes allow participants to choose one of two topics: "Startup Ideas for Revitalizing the Baegun Square Commercial District" or "Strategies to Attract Visitors to the Street Food Zone." University students and general residents interested in the urban regeneration project around Baegun Square are eligible to participate.
However, when registering for the competition, teams must be composed of 2 to 5 members.
The registration period is until July 4th.
On the competition day, July 5th, team members will participate in an on-site tour of Baegun Square and share weaknesses of their proposed ideas. On the following morning, July 6th, each team will prepare and present their final idea in a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation.
