Imsil-gun Prepares Comprehensive Measures Against Heatwave Including Operation of Cooling Shelters
On the 20th, Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk announced that it will fully embark on activities to prevent heatwave damage by preparing a comprehensive plan to cope with this summer's heatwave amid the early onset of hot weather.
The county formed a joint task force (T/F) with related departments and decided to promote more meticulous and systematic heatwave prevention activities than ever before by establishing a response system to maintain an emergency duty system and manage situations when a heatwave warning is issued.

In preparation for the full-scale heatwave, the county has begun focused inspections and operations of cooling shelters for residents during the summer.
Cooling shelters, including 319 welfare facilities such as senior centers and village halls, and 13 eup/myeon offices, totaling 332 locations, will have their air conditioning and other equipment intensively inspected to minimize inconvenience to residents.
The shelters are available for use until 6 p.m., and extended shelters (senior centers, village halls, etc.) operate until 9 p.m.
Operating hours vary on holidays depending on the facility, so detailed information should be obtained by contacting the respective facility.
Twelve shade shelters have been installed and are operating at major crosswalks and roadsides with high pedestrian traffic to provide shade from the sun, and four additional smart shade shelters that automatically open and close based on temperature and time are being installed.
The operation of water spraying trucks, which effectively reduce road heat radiation and fine dust, will resume on major roads in eup/myeon areas during the peak heatwave months of July and August, depending on the situation.
The county will provide drinking fountains at four terminals with high population movement (Imsil, Osu, Gwanchon, Gangjin) during the heatwave period to relieve the thirst of travelers exhausted by the heat.
Disaster helpers composed of elderly caregivers, voluntary disaster prevention groups, and village chiefs will operate to carefully monitor residents' health and conduct frequent inspections to prevent exposure to extreme heat.
The county plans to continue resident-focused promotional activities using various media such as leaflets containing heatwave response guidelines, banners, the official website, village broadcasts, SNS, and the disaster early warning system.
County Governor Shim Min said, “We will strive to help residents spend the summer healthily by implementing field-centered, customized heatwave measures such as regular facility inspections and deploying dedicated personnel,” and added, “We ask residents to familiarize themselves with the national heatwave response guidelines and participate in ensuring a safe summer.”
