Mokpo Coast Guard Detects 115 Cases of Marine Safety Violations
Expectations for Proactive Prevention of Maritime Accidents and Promotion of a Safety Accident Prevention Culture
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) announced on the 20th that it has apprehended 115 cases as a result of the "Special Crackdown on Marine Safety Violations in the First Half of 2023."
From February 20 to May 26, Mokpo Maritime Police conducted a focused crackdown for about three months to proactively prevent marine safety accidents and protect the lives of the public by selecting types of marine safety accidents tailored to the characteristics of the jurisdictional waters by region and period.
The main types of violations apprehended were 101 cases of failure to undergo vessel safety inspections, the highest number, followed by 5 cases of drunk navigation, and 2 cases each of unlicensed operation, violation of minimum crew standards, and exceeding the loaded draft line (overloading and overcapacity).
In addition, illegal vessel modifications and expansions, violations of navigation and fishing zones, and other criminal acts threatening public safety were also cracked down on and detected.

A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, "Since crimes that undermine marine safety are directly related to the lives of the public, related workers and participants must voluntarily raise awareness about safety," and added, "The Maritime Police will also do their best to foster a culture of accident prevention."
