Boseong-gun Utilizes 'Old Boseong Inn' as Living Cultural Asset

National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 132, Enjoyable Cultural Experience

Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will operate the "Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage Utilization Project" at the "Old Boseong Inn" in Beolgyo-eup until November.

The "Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage Utilization Project" is funded by the Cultural Heritage Administration, Jeollanam-do, and Boseong-gun, and operated by the Cultural Heritage National Table.

This project was promoted to raise awareness of the Boseong Inn and preserve its value by running programs utilizing local culture at the Old Boseong Inn, National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 132.

The main programs include ▲Emotional Performances (chamber music/Pansori/theater), ▲Cultural Experience Classes (Yeonjabang crafts/green tea cosmetics), ▲Weekend Healing Cultural Space (traditional instrument performances), and ▲Inside the Boseong Inn.

▲The Emotional Performances will feature chamber music based on compositions by the national musician Chaedongseon, Pansori performances by local masters inheriting the Seopyeonje Boseong sound, and modern theater performances.

▲The Cultural Experience Classes will include making cosmetics using Boseong green tea and traditional craft activities using Yeonjabang, while ▲the Weekend Healing Cultural Space program plans to hold themed performances regularly on weekends.

▲Inside the Boseong Inn is a permanent program where visitors can create scratchboard artworks to keep memories of the Boseong Inn.

A visitor from Gwangju, Mr. Kim, said, "Opportunities to watch performances with tea are rare, and I was unexpectedly moved, so it will remain in my memory for life," adding, "After touring the Old Boseong Inn and participating in the programs, I became interested in the surrounding cultural heritage."

Meanwhile, the Old Boseong Inn is a two-story Japanese-style building constructed in 1935, preserving the characteristics of Japanese wooden architecture and is a building of high preservation value. It was registered as a cultural heritage site in 2004 as the actual model of the "Namdo Inn" in the epic novel Taebaek Mountain Range.

Currently, it is used as a cafe and cultural space, and also operates a lodging wing where visitors can feel the atmosphere of the Namdo Inn from the novel.
