'Manshinchang-i' Trump Leads Biden in Presidential Election Poll

"Unprecedented Prosecution Had No Impact"
According to a survey conducted by the Harvard University Center for American Political Studies (CAPS), former President Donald Trump still holds an advantage over President Joe Biden in a hypothetical poll.
On the 17th (local time), CAPS, in collaboration with the American polling agency Harris Poll, conducted a 2024 presidential election survey. Among the 2,090 respondents, 45% chose former President Trump, while President Biden's approval rating was only 39%. Fifteen percent responded that they were undecided about which candidate to choose.
In a similar hypothetical head-to-head poll conducted by the same organization last month, Trump also held an advantage with 47% compared to Biden's 40%.
Former President Trump recently faced political headwinds. On the 8th, he was dishonorably indicted for the first time in constitutional history on charges of removing classified documents. In response, he expressed a heated reaction, calling it "crazy."
At a Republican event held on the 10th in Columbus, Georgia, Trump emphasized, "Every time I pass through a blue state (Democratic stronghold), I receive a subpoena," and added, "I will never go to jail."
He also harshly criticized Special Counsel Jack Smith, who indicted him, calling him a "madman" and a "Marxist." He condemned the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as "dens of sick people that must be removed immediately."
However, despite this turmoil, former President Trump's approval rating in the hypothetical head-to-head matchup appears largely unchanged. After the federal indictment, his support dropped by only 2% compared to before.
Mark Penn, co-responsible for the poll, analyzed, "The indictment had no impact on Biden's approval rating."
Within the Republican Party, Trump's position has actually strengthened. When asked, "If the Republican presidential primary were held today, whom would you support?" 59% of respondents chose former President Trump. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, considered a notable competitor to Trump, garnered only 14% support.
Meanwhile, voters participating in the survey expressed concerns about President Biden's health and age. Sixty-six percent of respondents said, "President Biden is too old to be re-elected."

However, views on age sharply diverged according to political affiliation. Among Republican supporters, 94% expressed concern about Biden's advanced age, whereas 65% of Democratic supporters responded that he is "(of) appropriate age" to be re-elected.
