Spreading Awareness of Eco-Friendly Consumption Culture... Nine out of Ten Willing to Purchase
86% of Consumers "Buy Eco-Friendly Products Even If Prices Are High"
Awareness of eco-friendly consumption culture has significantly spread domestically.
The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 20th that, according to an online survey conducted in April targeting 1,000 adult men and women aged 20 to 60 nationwide, 90.7% (907 people) expressed willingness to purchase eco-friendly products. This figure is 8.4 percentage points higher than the previous year. In particular, 86.4% of all respondents and 95.3% of those who indicated an intention to purchase eco-friendly products said they would buy eco-friendly products even if they were somewhat more expensive compared to regular products. The most common additional amount they were willing to pay ranged between 5% and 10%.
The proportion of respondents who mentioned that the Korea Consumer Agency’s product quality comparison information "influenced their purchase decision" was 86.4%. Going forward, the agency plans to add a "Purchase and Selection Guide" to its newsletter "Consumer Era" (webzine) and create a new menu on its official website so that consumers can check the information anytime.

The Korea Consumer Agency discloses quality comparison information for 22 categories of products, including home appliances and daily necessities, to help consumers make rational purchases and encourage fair competition among companies. Since the second half of last year, it has additionally provided a "Purchase and Selection Guide," which summarizes product quality, performance, price, and cost-effectiveness at a glance along with the "Comprehensive Quality Comparison Results Table." This information can be accessed on the comprehensive consumer information portal site "Consumer24."
