International Bureau of Expositions General Assembly, Busan Cafe and Paris Landmark Linked Street Performances
Busan City will promote the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo during the 172nd General Assembly of the International Bureau of Expositions (June 20?21) by operating the Busan promotional pop-up zone ‘Busan Dabang’ and holding street performances linked to Paris landmarks in Paris, France.
▲ Operation of the Busan promotional pop-up zone ‘Busan Dabang’
The Busan promotional pop-up zone ‘Busan Dabang’ will be open from June 20 to 21 local time. It will be set up as a caf? in front of the large Westfield shopping mall in the Ch?telet-Les Halles area of France, themed around overseas Korean food entertainment shows such as Youn’s Kitchen. Visitors can directly experience Korean culture and the 2030 Busan World Expo both inside and outside the caf?.
At the caf? entrance, there is the ‘Busan Expo Tree,’ an art installation made of trash polluted by climate and environmental factors. Visitors who remove the trash objects from the tree as part of efforts to achieve carbon neutrality will be rewarded with beverages and goods provided by the caf?.
Next to the Busan Expo Tree, an event distributing eco-friendly balloons that naturally biodegrade into water and carbon dioxide will be held, allowing visitors to naturally experience the 2030 Busan World Expo’s subtitle, ‘Sustainable Life with Nature.’
The exterior wall of the caf? features a photo wall wrapped with images of the 2030 Busan World Expo ambassadors with global popularity and influence, including Lee Jung-jae, BTS, and Baby Shark, attracting the attention of locals.
Inside the caf?, various Korean culture (K-culture) experience programs that allow visitors to experience Korean culture and Busan will be held.
These include the ‘Hangul Name Making Experience,’ where foreign names are written in Hangul based on their pronunciation and made into cards; the ‘Boogie Tattoo Experience,’ where visitors can apply stickers of Boogie, Busan City’s communication character, onto their skin; and the ‘Dalgona Challenge,’ popular overseas through the web drama ‘Squid Game.’ These programs are expected to receive enthusiastic responses from locals in Paris.
Additionally, monitors inside the caf? will continuously play promotional videos for the 2030 Busan World Expo and a cheer song for the bid by ambassador Sumi Jo.
The beverages offered at the caf? are designed to showcase the ‘taste of Busan’ with motifs from Busan and Korea. The main menu includes ‘Busan Dalmaji Coffee,’ an iced coffee based on Korea’s unique coffee mix; ‘Busan Camellia Flower Ade,’ made with camellia flower tea bags; and ‘Busan Misutgaru’ (a traditional Korean grain powder drink).
▲ Expanding bid support atmosphere using local company (Renault) network
At the entrance of Busan Dabang caf?, the Paris-based global company Renault will exhibit its eco-friendly hybrid electric vehicle (XM3), which is wrapped to indirectly introduce the main and sub-themes of the 2030 Busan World Expo. This special event aims to accompany local companies in supporting the bid and to spread bid support among International Bureau of Expositions member countries.
The exhibited vehicle, the ‘XM3’ model, was selected as the 2022 Car of the Year in France (‘Voiture de l’Ann?e’) and also as Spain’s Car of the Year. It received the highest rating in the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) evaluation by the prominent Swedish automotive magazine ‘Teknikens V?rld.’
▲ Street performances linked to Paris landmarks
To create a bid atmosphere for the 2030 Busan World Expo, promotional street performances will be held at Paris landmarks such as Trocad?ro Square and the Seine River bridges.
From June 19 to 21, one performance per day will feature the traditional Korean music classical ensemble ‘Hwasumok’ and the local influencer RISIN’ K-POP cover dance team, presenting high-quality performances to local citizens and tourists.
In particular, the ‘Hwasumok’ ensemble arranged and performed popular songs from France and Korea, receiving enthusiastic responses from many locals. The ‘RISIN’ team showcased famous K-POP cover dances popular worldwide, promoting Busan, Korea, and generating voluntary bid support from the audience.
