With its significant geopolitical importance in Korean Peninsula history, Pohang is a city of national defense history and culture that protected the homeland with an indomitable spirit despite foreign invasions. To widely promote and remember Pohang’s spirit of national defense, the city is making thorough preparations for this event, which is being planned for the first time this year in cooperation with 12 veterans organizations.
The city plans to hold various events during the National Defense History and Culture Festival not only to reflect on the historical significance of the Korean War but also to remember the noble sacrifices of ancestors and to express respect and gratitude to veterans’ families.
In particular, to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the Korean War, the Pohang Veterans Association Youth Group will hold a "Special Photo Exhibition on the Korean War," and the Pohang Veterans Association Women’s Group will conduct a "Korean War Remembrance Rice Ball Experience," providing unique hands-on activities for citizens.
Following the National Defense History and Culture Festival, on the 26th, the city will host a "Meeting with Veterans Organization Leaders," inviting local veterans organization heads to listen to their suggestions and offer consolation and encouragement.
During the meeting, the city will express gratitude to the veterans organization leaders who represent the families of those who sacrificed for the country and contributed to regional development, and will have a time of communication by listening to difficulties and suggestions regarding the operation of veterans organizations.
A Pohang city official said, "We hope many people will participate in events that remember those who contributed and sacrificed for the country and carry forward the city’s shining spirit of national defense to future generations. We will strive to create an environment where veterans’ families can feel pride and fulfillment and receive proper respect."
