He also emphasized that various policies will be reviewed to ensure that disabilities do not become obstacles for disabled students.
On the 19th, Superintendent Lim attended a National Assembly forum titled "How to Expand Employment of Disabled Teachers?" held at Seminar Room 1 of the National Assembly Members' Office Building, explaining, "The current 'Act on the Promotion of Employment and Vocational Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons' stipulates that a certain percentage (3.6%) of disabled teachers must be employed when appointing teachers, but unfortunately, the proportion of disabled teachers in the education office remains at around 1%."
He added, "Even though we want to hire disabled teachers, there is a severe shortage of candidates, so more efforts are needed from the education office and related organizations to employ disabled teachers," emphasizing, "If Gyeonggi Province takes the lead in solving this issue for the employment of disabled teachers, it will serve as a catalyst not only for teachers nationwide but also in other fields."
He further stated, "We need to establish policies that ensure disabled students do not face obstacles due to their disabilities and can connect to desired careers and paths, starting from the same starting line, supporting their independence as members of society," adding, "I hope this forum will be an opportunity to revisit the system for training disabled teachers and find meaningful solutions to expand the employment of disabled teachers."
The forum was chaired by Professor Han Kyung-geun of the Department of Special Education at Dankook University, with Han Gyu-il, Director of Special Education at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, serving as the moderator.
