Lee Jae-myung: "I Won't Give the Prosecution an Excuse for Conflict with the Democratic Party... I Will Waive My Non-Arrest Rights" (Update)
Lee Jae-myung Reveals Through Negotiation Group Speech
"If a Warrant Is Requested, I Will Undergo Substantive Review"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, declared on the 19th that he would waive his immunity from arrest in political investigations. He promised to appear and undergo a warrant hearing if an arrest warrant is requested.
During a negotiation group speech at the National Assembly plenary session that day, Lee said, "I will waive my immunity from arrest regarding the political investigation against me," adding, "If summoned, I will respond not just 10 times but 100 times as before. If an arrest warrant is requested, I will appear on my own to undergo the warrant hearing and expose the lawlessness of the prosecution." Lee also stated, "I will reveal the reality of the lawless Apgujeong regime that only engages in raids, arrests, prosecutions, and political strife to the public."
He said, "The prosecution, which has conducted over 300 raids targeting me, is conducting a net-style full investigation of current and former public officials in Seongnam City and Gyeonggi Province and continuing intense additional raids," adding, "Are they trying to put Lee Jae-myung back on the photo line and exploit the arrest consent motion to create conflict and division within the Democratic Party? That is what I think. I will no longer give them even that pretext."
Lee said, "Oppressive governance quickly destroys society," adding, "Even though competition to solve livelihood issues is insufficient, the government and ruling party, absorbed in political strife, are obsessed only with destroying the opposition and eliminating political rivals, so the country's affairs cannot be properly managed. The people have already seen through this."
