Gochang-gun Hosts Special Lecture for Month of Patriots and Veterans Inviting Professor Seokyungdeok
On the morning of the 19th, Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, announced that it held a special Gochang Forum for the Month of Patriots and Veterans at the Gochang Cultural Center, inviting Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women’s University, who is famous as a Korean promotion ambassador.
About 600 people, including local youth, veterans' families, and general residents, attended this lecture.
Professor Seo Kyung-duk gave a lecture titled “Korean Culture and History Promotion, Why Is It Important?” in which he introduced vivid cases he experienced while traveling around the world to correct and publicize distorted historical perceptions of Korea by neighboring countries.
He also continued the lecture by discussing activities to widely promote the history of national defense and veterans, such as raising awareness of lesser-known national memorial sites online with netizens to encourage many people to visit during June, the Month of Patriots and Veterans.
Professor Seo said, “In an era when so-called K-content is receiving more attention worldwide than ever before, our culture is exerting its power globally,” adding, “The foundation that supports the power of that culture is history, and establishing the basics of that history is important.”
He added, “To do so, we need to take more interest in our culture.”
County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “I thank Professor Seo Kyung-duk for providing an opportunity to take greater interest in the long-standing culture and history of our country and Gochang in commemoration of the Month of Patriots and Veterans,” and added, “I expect this lecture will greatly help in understanding and promoting the culture and history of Gochang, a UNESCO World Heritage city.”
Meanwhile, Professor Seo Kyung-duk was the first in Korea to place an advertisement about Dokdo in The New York Times. He has also placed related advertisements on the East Sea, Japan’s forced labor, and comfort women in world-renowned media such as The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.
