According to EFE news agency on the 18th (local time), in northern India, where abnormal high temperatures of 40 to 45 degrees Celsius have continued for several days, a total of 54 people have died from heat-related illnesses over the past three days. The Uttar Pradesh state health authorities reported that most of the victims were over 60 years old and suffered from chronic diseases, and complications from heatstroke and dehydration caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight were the causes of death. In particular, it was explained that many daily wage workers who engage in outdoor activities suffer from heat-related illnesses.
The North and Central American region is also experiencing much higher temperatures than usual due to the ocean warming phenomenon 'El Ni?o.' AP news reported that the southern United States, from Texas to Louisiana and Florida, is experiencing such high temperatures that steam is rising. In Houston, Texas, the mercury soared to 46 degrees Celsius, and Brownsville and Corpus Christi recorded 49 degrees Celsius.
Mexico is also experiencing scorching heat with daytime temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius. The Mexican Ministry of Health warned that temperatures could reach up to 45 degrees Celsius during this heatwave period. The Ministry reported that from March 19 to last week, 487 patients suffered from heatstroke and heat cramps. In Veracruz, Quintana Roo, Sonora, and Oaxaca, 8 deaths were recorded.

Earlier, the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), the European Union (EU) climate change monitoring agency, stated that since the beginning of this month, global warming has become prominent, and the global average temperature is about 1 degree Celsius higher than the highest June temperature recorded in 1979. Meteorologists are concerned that although only about half of June has passed and the average temperature this month may not surpass the previous record, considering the 'El Ni?o' phenomenon, this year could be hotter than 2016, the hottest year on record.
