Seocho District (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is conducting the ‘Seocho District-Soonsil University AI Convergence Resident Digital Competency Enhancement Education’ until July 5 to expand the base of AI technology.
The education targets Seocho residents aged 18 and over, and is operated with a total of eight AI courses taught by Soonsil University’s expert faculty, designed so that even beginners can easily follow along.
In response to the rise of the 4th Industrial Revolution and the increasing importance of the ICT industry and AI technology, the district prepared this education to help residents easily and familiarly access artificial intelligence (AI) technology in their daily lives.
In particular, this education is part of the ‘Seocho District-Seoul National University of Education-Soonsil University Business Agreement for Regional Community Development and Future Talent Cultivation’ signed last April. Seoul National University of Education, the education hub, is providing the venue and collaborating for regional community development and local residents.
The curriculum includes various lectures on AI technologies that are key in the 4th Industrial Era, such as ▲making AI electric fans using speech synthesis and recognition ▲robot vacuum cleaners using IOT sensors ▲understanding AI chatbots ▲principles and utilization of ChatGPT.
The district is conducting professional AI convergence education by combining theory (40%) and practice (60%) to make it easy for residents to understand. Also, to help even beginners follow easily, the practice method uses coding blocks instead of programming languages, allowing residents to engage with interest.
The education runs for four weeks, with two-hour sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays, totaling 16 hours. There are morning classes (10 AM to 12 PM) and afternoon classes (1 PM to 3 PM). Each session accommodates 30 people, totaling 60 participants. The education is free, and necessary PCs and AI coding block practice kits are provided.
The registration, which started on the 1st, was fully booked within two days, and additional inquiries for lectures are flooding in, showing great enthusiasm from residents. From young adults in their 20s and 30s to parents and seniors interested in AI convergence, education began on the 12th.
Last year in the second half, the district conducted ‘Seocho District Resident Smart Education’ to support various job foundations such as employment, entrepreneurship, and digital market development, receiving great responses. The education was operated in three courses: ‘Smart Store,’ ‘Emoticon Creator,’ and ‘Metaverse Creator,’ with some students achieving results such as opening smart stores and getting emoticons approved.
