Former Executive of Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Arrest Warrant for Alleged Receipt of Over 100 Million Won in Bribes
Pretrial Suspect Interrogation Scheduled for the 20th
An arrest warrant has been requested for Kang, the former senior vice chairman of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), who is accused of accepting bribes amounting to hundreds of millions of won.
According to the Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 17th, Kang's pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) is scheduled for the 20th. The police had applied for the arrest warrant to the prosecution on the 12th.
Kang, who was the senior vice chairman of the FKTU, is accused of receiving 100 million won from Choi and another person from the National Construction Industry Integrated Union Federation last September as a bribe for facilitating their membership in the FKTU (embezzlement). Among this, he is also accused of attempting to deliver 50 million won to a fellow FKTU executive, Mr. A (attempted embezzlement mediation).
Earlier, the National Construction Industry Labor Union was expelled from the FKTU in July last year due to incidents including the chairman’s embezzlement of union dues.
