20s Sentenced to 10 Years for Abusing and Causing Death of 3-Month-Old Cohabiting Girlfriend's Daughter
A man in his 20s was sentenced to 10 years in prison for abusing and causing the death of his cohabiting girlfriend's 3-month-old baby.
On the 16th, the Criminal Division 11 of Daegu District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Jong-gil) sentenced A (20), who was tried on charges of child abuse resulting in death, to 10 years in prison and ordered a 10-year ban on employment at child-related institutions.
A was indicted on charges of causing the death of his cohabiting girlfriend's 3-month-old daughter by inflicting head trauma and other abuse at a one-room apartment in Buk-gu, Daegu, last January.
At the time, B showed abnormal symptoms such as loss of eye focus, but A reportedly did not take any rescue measures. B died that same month from a subdural hematoma.

The court stated, "Although it does not appear that A had the intention to kill from the beginning, the guilt is heavy as he abused a young baby leading to death, and considering that he was not forgiven by the victim child's mother, the sentence was determined comprehensively."
