Court Dismisses Application to Suspend MBC and Visit Media Audit's National Audit by Board of Audit and Inspection
MBC and the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation filed an administrative lawsuit requesting the Board of Audit and Inspection to stop the national audit, but the court dismissed the case.
According to the legal community on the 16th, the Seoul Administrative Court Administrative Division 5 (Chief Judge Kim Sun-yeol) dismissed the injunction request filed by MBC and the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation to suspend the effect of the national audit decision against the Board of Audit and Inspection the day before.
Accordingly, the effect of the audit decision will be maintained. The Board of Audit and Inspection can continue the audit against MBC and the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation. The main lawsuit filed by MBC and the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation claiming the cancellation of the audit is scheduled for its first hearing on the 13th of next month.
Earlier, in November last year, civic groups such as the Citizens' Coalition for Fair Media requested a national audit on the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation. The Board of Audit and Inspection began the audit in February this year. The audit targets six issues, including ▲ a loss of 10.5 billion KRW due to investment in a US resort development ▲ delayed payment of profits from the Ultra Music Festival (UMF) ▲ difficulties in recovering advance investment funds for the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Tour ▲ losses exceeding 10 billion KRW by MBC Plus, among others.
