Seongbuk-gu Listens to On-Site Voices of Korea University’s ‘Cheonwon Breakfast’ Program
Seongbuk-gu, the first local government to provide subsidies to all universities in the area participating in the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ project
On the 16th, visited Korea University student cafeteria to collect user satisfaction on site
Support budget of 150 million won, provided to six universities in the district
Six universities located in Seongbuk-gu offer ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ from May to November, excluding summer vacation (July-August)
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) visited the site of Korea University (President Kim Dong-won)’s ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ project on the 15th.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, visited the student cafeteria inside Korea University Student Union Hall along with National Assembly members Ki Dong-min and Kim Young-bae to review the overall progress of the project.
He also had breakfast with students and listened to various opinions including satisfaction with the meal.
‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ is a project that supports college students, who have a high rate of skipping breakfast, to have a healthy breakfast for only 1,000 won.
Seongbuk-gu decided to provide project funds to all universities in the area participating in the project, becoming the first autonomous district in Seoul to do so. By adding local government support to the existing government (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) subsidies, the burden on schools and students was reduced.
Korea University had already been implementing the project to provide breakfast for 1,000 won, but with local government support, the project period has been extended and more students can benefit.
On the 15th, Park Sung-geun, President of Korea University Student Council, stated, “Our school had been running the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ project, but with Seongbuk-gu’s support, we can focus on providing quality meals.”
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “I feel rewarded that many students are responding positively to the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’,” adding, “Above all, I am glad to have the opportunity to meet young people directly on site and hear their opinions while promoting the project. We will continue to devise strong support measures so that young people can settle comfortably in our area and pursue their dreams, and we hope young people will take great interest in the district administration.”
Meanwhile, in April, Seongbuk-gu held a meeting attended by presidents, students, and project officials from six universities in the area (Korea University, Kookmin University, Dongduk Women’s University, Seokyeong University, Sungshin Women’s University, Hansung University) and decided to support the project with a budget of 150 million won.
