Buan-gun Mobilizes Efforts to Secure Transportation to Wido and Sikdo... Emergency Deployment of Government Ferry

Buan County (Governor Kwon Ik-hyun) announced on the 16th that it urgently deployed the fishing guidance vessel Jeonbuk 202 to secure maritime transportation for residents of Wido and Sikdo islands due to the temporary suspension of the Naehang passenger ferry service on the 14th.
This emergency deployment of the government vessel was a contingency measure taken to resolve the situation where Wido residents were stranded on the island after the Daewon Ferry, which operated between the islands, was sold overseas and ceased operation, and the Pajanggeum Ferry suffered an engine failure.

Since the 14th, the county has operated the fishing guidance vessel four round trips daily, transporting a total of 44 residents of Wido and others. The vessel's capacity is 20 passengers, and considering the limited capacity compared to the previous passenger ferries, island residents were prioritized for transport.
Kim Seong-yeol, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Department, stated, “We will continue to do our best to maintain stable routes for the passenger ferries, which are the only means of transportation for island residents, and to guarantee the mobility rights of Wido residents.”
