Haenam-gun, Agricultural and Marine Products Export 'Haenam Miso Heads to the USA'
Promotion Event for Overseas Permanent Sales Venues Participating in the LA Korean Festival This October
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myung Hyun-kwan) announced on the 15th that the online shopping mall Haenam Miso is taking the lead in exporting agricultural and marine products by pioneering sales channels in the U.S. market.
The county has signed a business agreement with the Jeollanam-do Small and Medium Business Job Economy Promotion Agency and is promoting sales events linked to the LA Korean Festival and overseas permanent sales outlets to develop export channels in the U.S.

First, to assess the potential of the U.S. market next month, a promotional event will be held at two Hannam Chain permanent sales outlets in the U.S., focusing on products listed on Haenam Miso.
The products, which include processed agricultural and marine food products such as sweet potatoes, as well as rice, gim (seaweed), mixed grains, and pickled vegetables, are exportable items preferred by overseas Korean residents, aiming to open the door to the U.S. market.
In particular, Haenam-gun plans to participate independently in the LA Korean Festival, the largest Korean festival in the U.S., this coming October.
Marking its 50th anniversary, this year’s large-scale Korean festival will feature five local companies showcasing ice sweet potatoes, sesame oil, various processed agricultural products, kimchi, and sauces.
In this regard, on the 9th, a business briefing session for the LA Korean Festival was held, with all five Haenam-gun companies attending to reaffirm their commitment to exporting to the U.S.
Since Governor Myung Hyun-kwan’s visit to the U.S. in September last year, during which he visited local companies and held export consultations to expand exports of Haenam agricultural and marine products, the county has been actively pioneering overseas markets.
Following the U.S. visit, a business agreement was signed with the local U.S. company Minsley, and exports of 500 tons of Haenam rice are underway, while export negotiations for sweet potato products are ongoing with U.S. distributors.
This year, in addition to participating in the LA Korean Festival, new projects to establish export infrastructure are being significantly expanded, including support for acquiring overseas certifications for agricultural products, promotional events linked to overseas permanent sales outlets, and support for booths at overseas exhibitions.
Furthermore, support is being provided for purchasing export consumables and export packaging materials to offer practical assistance to exporting companies.

A county official stated, “We expect 2023 to be the inaugural year of export leap, with the U.S. market development, which we have been steadily pursuing since last year, showing results. Although agricultural product exports are expected to face challenges due to the abolition of export logistics cost support starting next year, we will prepare various support measures for export companies to expand exports and open new avenues for our agricultural and marine products.”
