Yongsan-gu Strengthens Security at Government Office Starting Today
Yongsan-gu Announces Statement on the 15th to Strengthen Security at the Government Office to Protect the Safety of Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families and Employees
Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced that it will strengthen security at the government office starting from the 15th to ensure the safety of bereaved families and protect employees.
On the 14th, the district received an official letter titled "Request for Strengthened Self-Management of Yongsan-gu Office Facilities" from the Seoul Yongsan Police Station, instructing to minimize entry points and maintain order using internal personnel.
This decision was made based on the assessment that bereaved families are constantly exposed to sudden risks and that safety accidents could occur at any time.
It was added that on the 14th, bereaved families were exposed to accident risks on stairs and rooftops, and that if emotions escalate, there is a possibility of dangerous situations occurring.
The district explained that while it empathizes with the bereaved families' sorrowful feelings, considering recent media reports of falls on stairs, preventing safety accidents must be the top priority.
It also stated that since the 8th, serious disruptions have occurred in the official duties of Yongsan-gu Office employees, and some civil petitioners have expressed inconvenience, which was also taken into account.
