The Yoo Jae-ha Music Competition is the first singer-songwriter audition in Korea, which began in 1989. Over more than 30 years, it has produced famous musicians such as Bang Si-hyuk, Kim Yeon-woo, Sweet Sorrow, and No Reply. The CJ Cultural Foundation has been sponsoring this competition for 10 years since 2014.
The competition is open to individuals or teams aged 17 or older who can write lyrics, compose, arrange, and perform. Musicians with a history of releasing singles, mini-albums, or full albums can also participate. Applicants must submit two unpublished original songs' audio files and YouTube URLs of live performance videos through the "Yoo Jae-ha Music Scholarship Foundation website" by July 6.
After the first and second live performance screenings, a total of 10 teams will advance to the final stage on November 18. Through the final competition, awards such as the Yoo Jae-ha Music Award Grand Prize (5 million KRW) for one team, Gold Prize (2.5 million KRW) for one team, and Silver Prize (2 million KRW) for one team will be given.
Awardees will receive benefits including the production and release of the "34th Yoo Jae-ha Alumni Commemorative Album," support for commemorative performance production, and space support at CJ Azit Gwangheungchang.
This year, a pre-event will also be held on November 17 at Gwanak Art Hall in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, one day before the final competition.
