Dapsimni Auto Parts Market Transforms into Future-Oriented Complex Space

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that the architectural review for the Dapsimni Auto Parts Market Urban Maintenance-Type Redevelopment Project Association (Association Head Lee Dae-gyu), home to Korea's largest auto parts market, was conditionally approved on May 23.
The project site covers a total floor area of 190,959.70㎡, with some underground floors and lower levels designated for auto-related sales, public contribution facilities, and neighborhood living facilities. Additionally, Blocks 2 and 3 will feature 6 to 29 stories above ground, Block 4 will have 5 to 20 stories above ground, including 618 residential units with 140 public housing units, and Block 1 will have 7 to 25 stories above ground with 93 officetel units planned as office facilities.
The elevation plan incorporates metal and perforated metal panels designed to express the identity of the auto parts market, and solar panels will be installed on the exterior walls to utilize eco-friendly energy.
Furthermore, the existing small children's park located between Blocks 2 and 3 will be transformed into an open space connecting the surrounding areas.
This architectural review approval is the result of approximately 1 year and 8 months since the establishment approval of the ‘Dapsimni Auto Parts Market Urban Maintenance-Type Redevelopment Project Association’ on October 1, 2021. The association plans to apply for project implementation approval in the second half of this year, and accordingly, the district office will actively support the smooth progress of the redevelopment project.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Once redevelopment is completed, the Dapsimni Auto Parts Market will become a leading model of a future-oriented complex space and another symbolic space representing Dongdaemun-gu.” He added, “We expect the successful redevelopment to greatly contribute not only to revitalizing the local economy but also to youth entrepreneurship and job creation.”
