LH Holds 'University Student Housing Architecture Competition' to Create Childcare-Friendly Residential Complexes
Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 12th that it will hold the "27th LH University Student Housing Architecture Competition."
The theme of the contest is "Community Care Housing: Child-Friendly Mixed Residential Complex," emphasizing child-centered neighborly interaction and communication to overcome low birth rates.
The site is an urban area near a subway station, located at 95 Tancheonsang-ro, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is currently used as an annex of the LH Southern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters.
The design conditions are a floor area ratio of up to 300%, a building coverage ratio of up to 80%, and a maximum of 8 floors. The resident demographic, number of households, and number of parking spaces can be freely proposed. Additionally, participants are encouraged to freely suggest target residents, spatial composition, and scenarios that align with the contest theme.
Professor Guk Hyeong-geol from the Department of Architecture at Ewha Womans University will serve as the coordinator, responsible for setting the contest theme and direction, establishing the judging plan and overseeing the judging process, publishing the collection of works, and proposing directions for the contest's development.
Eligibility is open to domestic and international university and graduate students (including those on leave of absence), regardless of major. Participation can be individual or in teams of two. Applications are accepted from the 13th to the 30th.
Submissions are made twice, with judging conducted in two stages: first, a document review, followed by a presentation (PT). The second submission and judging are only for those who pass the first round. The judging panel consists of four external experts, and a total of 20 works will be selected as winners.
At the first submission, participants must submit panels (reduced scale) and a project description. Judging criteria include relevance to the theme, creativity, design, and expressiveness. The second stage involves submitting panels, models, and video content, along with a PT presentation, and is judged based on project completeness, potential for development, and social contribution.
Winning teams will receive a total prize of 21.5 million KRW. In particular, winners of the grand prize and excellence awards will be granted overseas architectural study tours, and winners of the merit award will receive support for domestic and international architectural study tours. Those who win merit awards or higher will receive preferential treatment in LH recruitment, such as bonus points on written exams and exemption from document screening.
