Haenam-gun Holds Environment Day Event to Promote Carbon Neutral Lifestyle Practices
Haenamcheon Environmental Cleanup, Resident Participation in Carbon Neutral Lifestyle Practices
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, which is focusing on promoting Haenam-type ESG, held a variety of events on Environment Day to practice carbon-neutral living.
According to the county on the 8th, on Environment Day, June 5th, a specialized education session on practicing carbon-neutral living for residents was conducted along with a cleanup activity of Haenamcheon Stream.
Participants visited Haenamcheon to carry out environmental cleanup activities and held an EM mud ball throwing event.

Additionally, on the 8th, about 50 participants, including members of the Parent Association and apartment community members, took a tour of the Haenam-gun Resource Processing Facility.
The specialized education held in the large conference room of Haenam County Office featured a video and play on the theme of practicing carbon-neutral living, and participants went through the process of signing up for the carbon-neutral point system.
Ryu Gwang-min, Chairman of the Haenam-gun 2050 Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee, gave a lecture titled "Let's Invest in the Earth," explaining the history of Environment Day, the continuous rise in the Earth's average annual temperature and its correlation with greenhouse gas emissions, and the severity of resource consumption per area in Korea, highlighting the current climate crisis situation.
In particular, he lectured on the exemplary case of voluntary resource separation and recycling conducted in Bunto Village, Hyeonsan-myeon, Haenam-gun, and the importance of investment in responding to carbon neutrality.
After the education session, participants visited Haenamcheon in Haenam-eup to carry out environmental cleanup activities and participated in an EM (Effective Microorganisms) mud ball throwing event.
To practice Haenam-type ESG, plogging activities (picking up trash while walking) are actively being carried out, centered on environmental and volunteer organizations in the county.
During the event, participants conducted environmental cleanup along Haenamcheon and threw mud balls containing beneficial microorganisms into the Geumgang Wetland area upstream.
Participants collectively said, "Through Environment Day, we learned ways to practice carbon neutrality in our daily lives," and "We hope this becomes an opportunity for all residents to realize the importance of climate change and the environment."
