60s Captain Drunk and Driving, Caught by Coast Guard

At around 2:19 PM on the 7th, a captain in his 60s who operated a vessel under the influence of alcohol was caught by the Coast Guard off the coast of Silandong, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam.
The Sacheon Coast Guard announced on the 8th that they responded to a report suspecting drunk navigation and apprehended Captain A of a 37-ton tugboat.
According to the Sacheon Coast Guard, Captain A drank alcohol at his home on the afternoon of the 6th and set out from Samcheonpo Port around 6 AM on the 7th.
Later that day, at around 3:30 PM, he was caught by officers from the Hadong Police Substation of the Sacheon Coast Guard while entering Jungchon Port.
At the time, Captain A’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.195%.
Under the Maritime Safety Act, operating or instructing the operation of a ship’s steering device with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.03% or higher can result in imprisonment from one to two years or a fine between 10 million and 20 million KRW, and may also lead to the cancellation of the maritime officer license.
