Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the '2023 2nd Immortal Masterclass' at 3 PM on June 30 at the Nowon-gu Citizens' Hall Grand Auditorium.
Since its inception in 2019, Immortal Masterclass has been a representative lifelong education project of the district, inviting prominent figures from various fields such as actor Lee Soon-jae, architect Yoo Hyun-joon, physicist Kim Sang-wook, and writer Jo Jung-rae to discuss contemporary issues and personal life stories.
The second Immortal Masterclass of this year will be conducted by Pyo Chang-won, Korea’s first-generation profiler, under the title "Finding True Happiness through Understanding Human Psychology."
Director Pyo has served as an advisory member for criminal psychological analysis at the National Police Agency and has contributed to solving numerous criminal cases. He has gained public recognition through appearances on various broadcasts such as "I Want to Know That" and "World Dark Tour," and was selected as a desired lecturer by residents in a survey conducted last year.
In this lecture, Director Pyo will explain the necessity of understanding and controlling pleasure and anger, which act as underlying motivators of human thoughts and behaviors, for a happy life.
He will also point out that crimes can occur when emotions are not regulated and discuss how understanding human psychology can ultimately be connected to living a happy life.
The Immortal Masterclass is free of charge and operates on a free seating basis. To accommodate residents of various age groups, a total of 600 seats are divided into 400 online pre-registered seats and 200 on-site seats available on the day of the event.
Online pre-registration can be made starting June 12 through the Nowon-gu Office website under the Communication & Participation - Online Registration menu, and on-site registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from 2 PM on Friday, the 30th.
The district will provide sign language interpreters for residents with language and hearing disabilities and will also broadcast the lecture live on the official district YouTube channel ‘Mihongssi’ for those unable to attend in person.
Meanwhile, the district plans to hold a total of four Immortal Masterclasses in the first and second halves of this year. The first session held in March received great response from residents with a lecture titled "What Is a Great Life?" by Korean history lecturer Choi Tae-sung, who is familiar to the public through numerous educational programs.
After each lecture, the district conducts surveys among attendees to ensure that residents’ preferences are reflected as much as possible in selecting topics and lecturers for the upcoming Immortal Masterclasses in the second half of the year.
