Eunpyeong-gu Supports the 68th Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony
Support Provided with Buses for About 300 Bereaved Families Visiting National Daejeon Memorial Cemetery and Seoul Memorial Cemetery
Commemoration Ceremony Held at Local Memorial Facility ‘Hoguk Youngung Myeongbi’ with About 50 Visitors
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) took the initiative on the 6th to support commemoration events for local bereaved families and residents in observance of the 68th Memorial Day.
To attend the annual Memorial Day ceremony, about 300 bereaved families from the district visiting the National Daejeon Memorial Cemetery and Seoul Memorial Cemetery were supported with 8 buses to ensure a comfortable and safe visit.
The local memorial facility ‘Hoguk Youngung Myeongbi’ was also open for residents to freely pay their respects, with extended opening hours from 4 p.m. on weekdays to 6 p.m. on Memorial Day itself.
Especially this year, a commemoration ceremony was held at ‘Hoguk Youngung Myeongbi’ together with about 50 visitors from Seoul Memorial Cemetery. The ceremony included flower offerings and incense burning to pray for the souls of the patriotic martyrs who protected the free Republic of Korea with their passionate youth and to honor their spirits.
Located in Bulgwang-dong Village Square, Eunpyeong-gu’s ‘Hoguk Youngung Myeongbi’ was established in 2017 as a memorial facility designated by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to honor the sacrifices of the Korean War veterans and patriotic martyrs. The monument bears the names of 3,647 Korean War veterans from Eunpyeong-gu, preserving the legacy of those who sacrificed and contributed to the nation for future generations.
In addition to supporting commemoration events on Memorial Day, Eunpyeong-gu is holding a photo exhibition of veterans’ organizations at the Eunpyeong-gu Veterans Hall (located in Jingwan-dong) until June 9 in observance of Patriotic Month. At the end of June, there are plans for students from Nokbeon Elementary School to visit Seoul Memorial Cemetery together.

Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “The tragedy of the Korean War must never be repeated on this land, and today’s commemoration event is also our pledge to hope that the painful history will not recur. Honoring each of the noble sacrifices of our ancestors, remembering and mourning their dedication, and taking steps forward for the bright future of the Republic of Korea is our rightful duty as the generation living in this era for the heroes who gave their lives for the country.”
