Incheon Yeonsu-gu, 978 Electric Vehicle Charging Zone Fines Issued Over 4 Months
Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, is strengthening enforcement measures such as imposing fines due to a surge in complaints about general vehicles parking in electric vehicle charging zones.
Since the revision of the Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Act in January last year, the district has been conducting enforcement against violations in electric vehicle charging zones after a six-month period of promotion and guidance.
With the increase in electric vehicles, the actual number of fines issued has significantly risen from 316 cases last year to 978 cases from January to April this year. The most common violation was 'general vehicles parking in charging zones within apartment complexes.'
The fine amounts are as follows: ▲100,000 KRW for general vehicles parking in charging zones ▲100,000 KRW for charging vehicles parking beyond the allowed time (1 hour for fast charging, 14 hours for slow charging) ▲100,000 KRW for obstructing charging ▲200,000 KRW for intentional damage to charging facilities or charging zone markings.
A Yeonsu-gu official stated, "As the number of electric vehicles increases, charging zones are expanding, and we expect reports of violations to continue rising." They added, "Along with strengthening on-site enforcement, we plan to focus on promoting awareness of violations by distributing informational materials to management offices of apartment complexes."
