"Will Buy You Sundae" - Sex Offender with 42 Prior Convictions Targeting Elementary Students Arrested and Prosecuted
A man with 42 prior convictions, accused of attempting to lure female elementary school students in a Seoul city center academy district, has been brought to trial.
On the 1st, the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Seonnyeo) indicted a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of attempted abduction of a minor.
On the afternoon of the 15th of last month, Mr. A attempted to lure two 10-year-old female elementary students at the parking lot of an English academy in Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, by saying, "I will buy you sundae (Korean blood sausage), so come with me." The students immediately fled to the academy, and the crime was reportedly unsuccessful.
The police, who responded following a report from the academy director, analyzed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and arrested Mr. A near his home in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, around 7 p.m. that day.
Mr. A, who has 42 prior convictions, is known to be a registered sex offender with confirmed guilty verdicts. Considering Mr. A's past sex crime record and the method of the crime, the prosecution requested an order to attach an electronic location tracking device (electronic anklet) to him.
