Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do has unveiled a ‘Gwangyang Travel Course’ for June, when the summer season begins in earnest, designed to lower discomfort levels and raise happiness indices.
The city recommended three courses: a half-day course, a day course, and a 1-night 2-day course, featuring purple romance with Sarasil Lavender, Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, Gwangyang Wine Cave, and forest vacations filled with phytoncides.
The half-day course, ‘Half a Day in Gwangyang,’ connects Sarasil Lavender ~ Delightful Gourmet ~ Inseori Park ~ Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest.
Sarasil Lavender is a romantic space that unfolds a purple spectacle every early summer and is a hot place not to be missed in June.
The beautiful green metasequoia trees, cornflowers, poppies, purple benches, and parasols create an exotic landscape that excites visitors.
Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest is a wellness space equipped with dense primeval forests, a plant ecology forest, a healing forest, a wood culture experience center, and an inspiring bookstore, serving as a resting point for modern people tired of daily life.
Visitors can enjoy a walk while making eye contact with various plants in the plant ecology forest and spend time resting and healing with activities such as wind bathing, foot bathing, and meditation yoga in the healing forest.
The forest bookstore, stocked with over a thousand books, features a lawn garden and wooden tables, allowing visitors to enjoy both healing and intellectual pleasure while reading amidst greenery.
The wood culture experience center includes a woodworking workshop where visitors can create their own works and a wooden imagination playground filled with eco-friendly wooden toys, making it popular among family visitors.
The day course, ‘A Whole Day in Gwangyang,’ follows the route Sarasil Lavender ~ Delightful Gourmet ~ Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art & Gwangyang Art Warehouse ~ Gwangyang Wine Cave ~ Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest.
At the Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, visitors can enjoy exhibitions such as ‘City Garden’ and Richard Kennedy’s works until the 4th of this month, and the ‘Another Sea of Asia’ exhibition running until July 16 features works by Asian artists including Nam June Paik, Kim Whanki, Murai Hironori, and Hwang Bohao.
Gwangyang Wine Cave, a complex cultural space transformed from an abandoned tunnel, is an ideal romantic summer retreat where visitors can learn about the history of wine and enjoy media art, foot baths, and photo zones.
‘A Night Counting Stars in Gwangyang’ is a 1-night 2-day course that travels through Gwangyang’s nature and culture from Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest to the Mangdeok Port of the Seomjin River, allowing visitors to enjoy beautiful night views.
The first day’s course includes Marosan Fortress ~ Sarasil Lavender ~ Delightful Gourmet ~ Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art & Gwangyang Art Warehouse ~ Gwangyang Wine Cave ~ Gubongsan Observatory ~ Sunshine Beach Park & Yi Sun-sin Bridge.
The second day leisurely concludes the 1-night 2-day journey with visits to Kim Si Sikji ~ Baealdo Island Garden & Mangdeok Port ~ Delightful Gourmet ~ Seomjin River End Village ~ Neuraengi-gol Natural Recreation Forest.
