Gyeonggi-do, Actively Cooperates with Relevant Agencies Regarding North Korea's Space Launch Vehicle Launch Response
Gyeonggi Province announced that it will cooperate with related agencies to ensure the safety of residents following the launch of a North Korean space launch vehicle on the 31st of last month.
Gyeonggi Province closely monitored the space launch vehicle situation immediately after North Korea's disclosure and media reports on the 30th of last month. After North Korea launched the space launch vehicle at 6:29 a.m. on the 31st, Governor Kim Dong-yeon, the Emergency Planning Office, and relevant department heads communicated in real time and took necessary measures to respond to North Korean provocations, including sending text messages to city and county alert officers.
In particular, Gyeonggi Province judged that the matter was not an urgent issue to be notified to residents. After receiving the situation report through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's unified command, the Emergency Planning Office sent emergency situation alert text messages to 1,738 people, including all staff of the Emergency Planning Office, executives at grade 3 or higher, security guards at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government building, and alert officers of 31 cities and counties. The messages stated that North Korea had launched a space launch vehicle and instructed each officer to prepare for an emergency situation.
