"AI Riding the Mobility Wave"... KCCI and Mercedes-Benz Host Startup Investment Event
Co-hosting 'IR Day' for Mobility Startups
8 Startups Participating Including Wireless Charging for Electric Vehicles
“Can electric vehicles be charged wirelessly like smartphones?”
The Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced that it held the ‘Startup Autobahn Korea IR Day with Seoul Chamber’ on the 1st at COEX, in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Korea, focusing on mobility. The event aims to support investment attraction and market expansion for outstanding startups in Seoul. This was the second event following the climate tech sector held in March.
The startups participating in the IR Day stated, “Pedestrian accidents occurring in blind spots, frequently reported in the media recently, and drowsy driving, a major cause of accidents in spring, can be drastically reduced through artificial intelligence.” ‘ThermoEye,’ which develops thermal imaging AI cameras capable of stable object detection even in severe weather and special environments to prevent pedestrian accidents, and ‘DeltaX,’ a solution developer that monitors driver and passenger safety in real-time inside vehicles, are startups presenting mobility safety as their business model.
‘WiFiOne,’ which developed technology that enables real-time charging when electric vehicles are running or stopped by utilizing magnetic fields, emphasized that its wireless charging technology has the economic feasibility to supplement the currently insufficient electric vehicle charging infrastructure. In fact, WiFiOne was recognized for its innovation and granted a demonstration exemption at the ‘ICT Sandbox Deliberation Committee’ hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2020.
At this IR Day, numerous domestic leading venture capital analysts from Kakao Ventures, Mirae Asset Venture Investment, Hana Ventures, and others attended, providing so-called ‘one-stop consulting’ by pointing out areas for improvement to startups seeking follow-up investments. The VCs participating in the consulting said, “Even amid an investment winter, companies that rapidly grow sales or lead follow-up investments commonly have a clear understanding of the problem they aim to solve and possess unique ideas compared to competitors,” adding, “Building a diverse network to quickly grasp market trends is also an essential capability startups must have.”
