Inauguration of Lee Sang-hoon as the 12th Chairman of Korea Industrial Complex Corporation

Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (hereinafter referred to as KICO) announced on the 1st that Lee Sang-hoon, former Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has been inaugurated as the 12th Chairman. On the same day, Chairman Lee held an inauguration ceremony at the headquarters located in Daegu Innovation City and officially began his duties.
In his inaugural speech, Chairman Lee said, "A fundamental transformation is necessary to overcome the various challenges faced by industrial complexes," and added, "KICO will transform industrial complexes into innovative spaces of digitalization and low carbon, and become a leading institution supporting companies' sales and competitiveness enhancement."
He also emphasized, "We will take the lead in creating industrial complexes that are safe from injuries and various disasters, and in resolving various outdated regulations that hinder companies' creative ideas." He mentioned plans to create distinctive branded complexes and complex cultural spaces to realize attractive industrial complexes visited by youth and tourists.
He identified the digital transformation and eco-friendly implementation of industrial complexes as priority core tasks. Chairman Lee stated, "Along with changing the mindset and strengthening the capabilities of all employees, we will meticulously pursue management innovation to improve KICO's organizational efficiency."
To the executives and staff, he emphasized, "We must lead industrial complexes as a springboard for companies to leap forward by directly listening to and communicating with companies on site," and urged them to "act as consultants for innovative technologies such as domain-specialized artificial intelligence (AI), collaborative robots, 6G, carbon capture, and distributed energy." Starting with the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Lee will receive departmental reports and plans to visit industrial complex sites from next week to communicate with tenant companies.

Meanwhile, the new Chairman graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and earned a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. He entered public service by passing the 28th Technical Examination in 1992 as the top scorer and has held positions including ▲Director of the Software (SW) Industry Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, ▲Specialist at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), ▲Special Disaster Support Officer at the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, ▲Director of Industrial Technology Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, ▲Director of the Standard Policy Bureau at the National Institute of Technology and Standards, ▲and Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards.
