HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Wins Order for Five Ultra-Large Container Ships Worth 1.2392 Trillion KRW
Contract for Construction of 15,500 TEU Class Vessel with Taiwan Yang Ming Marine
Built by Ulsan HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Delivery Starting 2026
HD Hyundai's mid-sized shipholding company, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, has successfully secured orders for five vessels worth a total of 1.2392 trillion KRW.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on the 1st that it recently signed a construction contract with Taiwanese shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation for five 15,500 TEU-class LNG-powered ultra-large container ships.
The LNG-powered ultra-large container ships ordered this time measure 365m in length, 51m in width, and 29.85m in height. They will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and are scheduled to be delivered sequentially to the shipowner starting in 2026. These vessels are equipped with LNG propulsion engines, enabling compliance with the strengthened environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
So far, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has secured a total of 93 vessels worth 11.42 billion USD, achieving 72.6% of its annual order target of 15.74 billion USD.
