Korea Mid-Amateur Golf Federation Sponsors Asia Economy Honam Ironman Golf Tournament
Korean Mid-Amateur Golf Federation (KMAGF) will officially sponsor the ‘2023 Asia Economy Honam·Jeje Ironman Golf Tournament’ held on July 7 at Jeju Island Golfzon County Ora CC.
The ‘2023 Asia Economy Honam·Jeje Ironman Golf Tournament’ is a competition where rankings are determined by 54 holes of stroke play over 3 rounds in one day, according to R&A rules.
With the long duration and many rounds, the key is how well players can maintain their stamina and concentration to perform their golf skills until the very end. This aspect is expected to introduce many variables affecting the competition results and the winner’s outcome.
The Korean Mid-Amateur Golf Federation (hereinafter Mid-Amateur Golf Federation), participating as an official sponsor in this tournament, is a golf federation registered under the Korea Golf Association since 2010, organizing tournaments for pure amateur golfers aged 25 and above.
In golf, mid-amateurs generally differ in status from regular amateurs.
According to R&A rules, in the amateur classification process, general amateurs refer to players with clear objectives such as juniors and elite players, while mid-amateurs refer to pure amateurs who are simply golf enthusiasts and hobbyists.
Recently, as golf’s popularity has surged, the Mid-Amateur Golf Federation’s popularity has also risen, leading to increased activities.
Last year, the Mid-Amateur Golf Federation held 10 Green Tour tournaments, which are considered a second-tier league, as well as 9 regular tournaments where the strongest amateurs competed. This year, they plan to hold 10 Green Tour tournaments and 11 regular tour tournaments.
A federation official explained, “Currently, there are 8,000 registered players in the federation, and for the Green Tour, which has a low entry barrier, registration spots fill up within 10 minutes of opening.”
Kim Yang-kwon, president of the Korean Mid-Amateur Golf Federation, said, “Leading a proper golf culture and practicing honor through challenges, our federation players participating in the extreme Ironman Golf is another challenge,” adding, “We decided to actively support the Asia Economy Ironman Golf Tournament as it attempts a new approach to golf and shares our vision.”
