Mokpo National University Selected for 2023 University Sports Team Evaluation and Support Project
A Total of 7.4 Billion KRW Provided to Sports Teams at 130 Universities Nationwide
The Sports Department of Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 31st that it has been selected for the '2023 University Sports Team Evaluation and Support Project' organized by KUSF (Korea University Sports Federation) and financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.

The University Sports Team Evaluation and Support Project is a program organized by KUSF since 2015 and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, aimed at fostering university sports teams facing crises such as downsizing or abolition amid university restructuring, and enhancing the competitiveness of university sports.
KUSF conducted evaluations over the past two months based on a total of 14 evaluation indicators across 4 areas and 42 detailed evaluation items.
Based on the evaluation results, a total of 7.4 billion KRW, the largest amount ever, will be provided to 130 university sports teams nationwide that are members of the federation.
Currently, Mokpo National University operates four sports teams: Kendo, Basketball, Roller Sports, and Volleyball. With this selection for the sports team support project, the university has secured a project budget of 71 million KRW, an increase of 7 million KRW compared to last year. The support funds will be used to enhance competitiveness through training expenses, training equipment costs, and competition participation fees.

Park Hee-seok, head of the Sports Department at Mokpo National University, stated, “The Sports Department at Mokpo National University will continue to provide substantial support so that student athletes who diligently balance academics and sports can realize their dreams. Starting next year, we plan to establish table tennis and track and field teams to play a central role in Jeonnam sports.”
