NVIDIA's Surprise Earnings Boost High-End Semiconductor Outlook: "58% Demand Surge Expected This Year"
TrendForce Announces Related Forecast Statistics
This year, the shipment volume of artificial intelligence (AI) servers is expected to increase by 38.4% compared to last year, leading to a projected 58% surge in demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
On the 30th, market research firm TrendForce announced this forecast, stating, "The shipment volume of AI servers will rapidly increase this year, with approximately 1.2 million units shipped worldwide."
TrendForce estimated that AI servers will account for nearly 9% of the total server shipments this year. They further predicted that this share will rise to 15% by 2026.
TrendForce expects the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of AI server shipments from 2022 to 2026 to be 22%. This is an upward revision from the 10.8% CAGR they presented in March.
As AI server shipments increase, demand will grow not only for the graphics processing units (GPUs) that support them but also for high-performance, high-capacity memory products.
TrendForce explained that NVIDIA, a leading GPU manufacturer from the United States, has captured a majority market share in global data center markets including the US and China. They also noted that as demand for high-performance GPUs becomes more prominent, the demand for HBM, which is installed alongside these GPUs, will surge sharply.
