Promotional Posters, Rose Parade, Rose Pop-up Garden and More: A Festival Created and Enjoyed Together by Residents
The ‘2023 Seoul Rose Festival,’ which beautifully colored the Jungnangcheon area in Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) throughout May, came to a close on the 28th with the finale of the Gyeomjae Rose Festival.
During the festival period from May 13 to 28, the number of visitors who came to see the 10 million blooming roses in a variety of colors, living up to its reputation as ‘the most beautiful festival in Seoul,’ reached 2.6 million.
Returning to the citizens on a large scale for the first time in four years, the Seoul Rose Festival offered visitors enjoyment without missing out on food, sights, and activities. From the new rose variety named Mangwoo Rose, unique to Jungnang-gu, to various roses from around the world such as Angela and Pink Perfume, the festival conveyed the vitality of spring. The 5.45 km rose tunnel along Jungnangcheon also drew admiration.
This festival also revitalized the local economy. Visitors flocked to booths set up for local merchants and small businesses to sell food and products while promoting themselves.
Additionally, a variety of musical performances received great responses. The Rose Concert and Rose & Music Festival featuring popular singers, busking performances by local artists known as Jungnang Artists, folk performances by the Bulgarian Folk Troupe, and the Jungnang Residents’ Singing Contest Rose Song Festival delighted visitors’ eyes and ears.
The Gyeomjae Rose Festival held near Gyeomjae Bridge on the 27th also enriched the festival until the very end with programs such as a trot concert.
The district office deployed over 2,900 personnel during the festival period to ensure a safe festival by guarding performance venues, main entrances and exits, and bridges, focusing all efforts on safety management.
Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “The great success of this Rose Festival is largely thanks to the residents. I would like to express my gratitude to the residents who passionately participated from start to finish, from the rose festival poster models to the rose parade and rose pop-up garden, and helped create the festival together.”
He added, “I also thank the officials who worked hard to hold the festival and the many visitors who cooperated with orderly viewing to successfully conclude the festival. I hope the Seoul Rose Festival will continue to develop and grow, becoming a great source of pride for the residents.”

Although the main events of the ‘2023 Seoul Rose Festival’ ended on the 28th, the roses adorning the Jungnangcheon area still display their beautiful appearance. Visitors can enjoy the scenery at Surimdae Rose Garden and Junghwa Sports Park, and in September, autumn roses will bloom again, filling the Jungnangcheon area once more.
