Cho Kuk's Side "Son's Admission Documents Not False"... Denies Charges in Second Trial
"Does Not Obstruct School Admission Screening Tasks"
The former Minister of Justice, Cho Kuk, who was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial on charges including admission fraud involving his children, claimed innocence in the appeal trial.
On the 25th, Cho's legal team stated at the first preparatory hearing of the appeal trial held at the Seoul High Court that the volunteer activity certificates and other admission documents of his son were not falsified. Regarding the charge of falsifying his son's graduate school application by listing false experience, they argued, "It is clear that the person himself participated in the internship," and "We did not obstruct the school's admission review process."
Regarding the charge of receiving 6 million won from Roh Hwan-jung, former director of Busan Medical Center, under the pretext of a scholarship for his daughter Cho Min, who was admitted to the Busan National University School of Medicine, Cho's legal team emphasized that it is difficult to view Cho as having directly received the scholarship and asserted his innocence.
In January, the first trial found most of the charges related to admission fraud involving his children and the charge of covering up the investigation of former Vice Mayor Yoo guilty, sentencing Cho to two years in prison and imposing a fine of 6 million won.
