Gurye-gun Signs Business Agreement with Female Warriors Revitalizing Local Alley Markets

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Soon-ho) announced that since 2019, it has been promoting an urban regeneration project in the Bongdong-ri area of Gurye-eup to revitalize the old downtown, transforming it into a beautiful ecological city where nature breathes.

In particular, various projects such as improving the quality of the residential environment and creating beautiful alleyways are gradually showing results. At the center of this are six female warriors.

The Gurye-gun Urban Regeneration Center signed a business agreement on May 25 with the representatives of six locations: Merry Home (Jang Seon-gyeong), Hanok-e Salda (Kim Jeong-suk), Swim (Lee Chae-ryeong), Moran Store (Lee Hyeong-ran), Seona’s Store (Kim Seon-a), and Lippi & Kkomul Kkomul (Shin Nari).

This agreement aims to pursue vibrant urban regeneration through information exchange and cooperation for creating a sustainable hip alleyway in Gurye-eup, conflict mediation and resolution with merchants, and promotion and provision of materials via blogs and SNS.

Those revitalizing the alleyway commercial district of Gurye-eup recently returned to their hometowns or relocated to Gurye-gun for its development.

They were full of enthusiasm to successfully lead the urban regeneration project as active participants in alleyway revitalization.

It is notable and advantageous that all six representatives are women. They are affectionately called the ‘female warriors’ who are saving the old downtown alleyway commercial district of Gurye-eup.

Merry Home’s representative Jang Seon-gyeong said, “Gurye-eup is attractive because rent is cheap, there is no territorialism, and the transportation system centered around the terminal is well organized, making business dynamic and prosperous.”

Seona’s Store representative Kim Seon-a, who developed her insight and capabilities through peddling in places like Yeosu and Suncheon, has returned to her hometown to supply good products at low prices.

Moran Store is an art space, and the lodging operated by representative Kim Jeong-su is a hanok (traditional Korean house) with a small European-style garden.

Swim and Lippi Cafe are loved as liberation spaces and resting places for the new generation.

Jeon Hee-jeong, the chief coordinator who supported and nurtured the female warriors, said, “Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will establish a female warrior line for promotion and actively support it by regularly meeting for information exchange and resolving difficulties to make Gurye-eup a hot place.”
