China Strikes Japan Repeatedly... "Firmly Oppose Semiconductor Regulations"
Amid the intensifying technology war between the US and China, China is raising the level of criticism against Japan, which is providing support to the US.
On the 23rd, China's Ministry of Commerce issued a statement saying, "Japan is abusing export control measures and showing deviations from free trade and international rules," and "we firmly oppose this." The ministry's statement came after Japan disclosed details regarding the restriction of exports of 23 types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China on the same day. The related regulations will take effect from July 23. Japan's semiconductor equipment export restrictions on China are seen as supporting the US's Asia strategy to reduce supply chain dependence on China and contain it.
The Ministry of Commerce claimed, "This measure seriously damages the interests of Chinese and Japanese companies and economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, and disrupts the global semiconductor industry environment," adding, "It will also affect supply chain security and stability." Furthermore, it urged the correction of wrongful practices and emphasized, "China has the right to defend its legitimate interests."

Earlier, China stated that products from the US semiconductor company Micron pose serious security risks and instructed major information technology (IT) infrastructure operators to stop purchasing Micron products. This is interpreted as a retaliatory measure amid the US's increasing offensive against China through direct sanctions on Chinese companies, semiconductor export restrictions, and semiconductor supply chain restructuring. In response, the US Department of Commerce asserted, "We firmly oppose these regulations, which are virtually baseless."
