Highway Preliminary Planning Survey Service Contract for Accessibility Improvement

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 23rd that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has commissioned a "Preliminary Planning Survey Service" for the construction of the "Gwangju~Gohung (Naro Space Center) Expressway" (L=87.7km).

The "Gwangju~Gohung (Naro Space Center) Expressway" being promoted this time is directly linked to Gohung-gun's key initiatives of establishing a "Space Launch Vehicle Industry Cluster" and creating a "Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex." Therefore, Gohung-gun has been making all-out efforts to improve accessibility by constructing the expressway.

At the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Jeollanam-do, and Gohung-gun current issues meeting held on the 18th at Gohung-gun Office (Space Hall) for the successful promotion of the Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex, Governor Gong Young-min stated, "Improving accessibility is essential for the successful establishment of the national industrial complex," and urged Minister Won Hee-ryong of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport that "the construction of the Gwangju~Gohung (Naro Space Center) Expressway should be expedited."

In response, Minister Won Hee-ryong said, "The President also instructed that central government agencies should directly and fully support not only attracting companies but also improving accessibility and living conditions to ensure no setbacks in the establishment of the national industrial complex," and promised, "Since the Naro Space Center is like a terminal to space in South Korea, we will actively support improving accessibility and living conditions to ensure no setbacks in the creation of the Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex."

The "Preliminary Planning Survey Service for the Gwangju~Gohung (Naro Space Center) Expressway" will comprehensively review traffic conditions, future traffic demand, and the regional economic situation to serve as the basic plan for starting the expressway construction.

Governor Gong Young-min said, "We plan to concentrate administrative power to ensure substantial results from the preliminary planning survey service and will firmly establish the growth foundation to achieve the vision of '100,000 population in Gohung in 10 years' during the 8th elected term."
